Naqod: Dat Dot At Num. 29:15
I found this amazing resource online. I was researching the Naqod in today’s Parsha, Pinchas. At Numbers 29:15 occurs one of the strange “Extraordinary Dots” which appear in 10 places in the Torah. Their meaning or meanings are unclear.
In this case the extra dot appears over the second vav in the word vav ayin sin raish VAV final nun. The verse “One tenth a tenth for one lamb for each of the fourteen lambs.” It is taken to mean a tenth of an ephah (of fine flour) for EACH of the fourteen lambs.
By clicking on the link the extremely detailed discussion of this singular point is accessed from a text written in 1910. In brief it attributes the naqod to scribes taking into account the variant manuscripts. Other than the now standard Masoretic Version, there were many many variants. At this particular verse many do not have the repetition “a tenth a tenth”. Some have more than one naqod.
This all is interesting. But. Before I looked into the whys and hows of the naqodoth (plural) I played numerology theories. I found an interesting answer not relevant to textual variants but meaningful numerologically.
The verse mentions 14 lambs. If one counts 14 letters before the VAV Naqod and 14 letters afterwards both are dalet. Dalet Vav Dalet. This is a spelling used by or for David. ד ו ד. Interesting, but more. The gematria (number value) is 4 + 6 + 4 = 14. 14 = the number of David, the number of lambs and in Matt. 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
So this naqod marks a letter from which 14 letters can be counted backward and forward that produce the name David and the value 14. A number the Gospel writer of Matthew linked to Yeshua.

Contest Entry: Sweet Memory from Israel

There are several caves on Mount Carmel associated with Elijah the Prophet.  One of them is inside the  Church of the Stella Carmelite Monastery.  In Israel it is not unusual to find special sites actually enclosed within a church building.
After spending an infernally  hot day walking down the Bahai Gardens and a quick shower in my el-cheapo hotel, and I was off to see the cave.
I got there just as they were locking up.   I drove my Eldan rental to Stella Maris from the Hotel, with the AC as always on full blast.  I parked just above the monastery.  Haifa is nearly a vertical city, perched on Mount Carmel. Up and down are directions as well as left and right.   And to traverse that verticality there is the upper terminus of the cable car just down the block.
The Monastery was closing just as I arrived.  There is a trail descending down from Stella Maris Carmelite Monastery to the sea.   Down it, I was told, are several other caves.  Learning of the other caves I decided to walk down. So I walked down the trail as the sun was going down to my left.  The trail winds down from the hilltop.  After a little while I saw the cement skeleton from some abandoned building or bunker.  I noticed the sun shining through an empty window and casting a bright rectangle on the wall.

I had been traveling alone and was very aware of my intuitive thoughts.  Often times hiking about the many Nature areas I sought out, I would come to forks in the trail.   Nearly always I picked what turned out to be the most fortuitous choice. That fiery orange rectangle must be significant, I knew!  I strolled off on a subsidiary trail to check it out.  As the sun was going down the air was cooling.  Birds were singing.  The sky over the Med was shades of mauve and pink with the formerly fierce sun now casting a whisper and shadows.

The bunker (or whatever it was) was cool and hushed.  The orange rectangle on the wall opposite the empty window was at hand.  Whatever was in that rectangle was there for me.  I knew that.  What would it be?

I thought of the day’s sights and travels.  I thought of the precise sequence of the day that lead me to this place at this particular time on this exact day to see this beam lighting this rectangular space.  Inside, stepping over broken glass, Coke bottles and beer cans and signs of bonfires past  I was greeted by a welcome cool moist feeling.  As only the glass and small stones underfoot broke the silence I proceeded to see just what I was supposed to see.
There, as if framed perfectly by the sun beam was writing.  I knew it!  But what does it say?
It was the Ten Commandments!  Someone had written the Ten Commandments in graffiti.  And whoever did, did so at this precise location.  They must have been here at the same time and solar day as I was.  Another year maybe.  Another decade?

I was stunned.  I was grateful that G-d brought me there at that time with eyes to see and a hunch.  Still stunned I walked on.  The trail descended down into shaded and hushed forest.  And down to the sound of the highway.  Across the road there is a restaurant on the sea.  It is in the building that also serves for the bottom terminus of the cable car.  I watched the sun finish setting, had a bite and a cold drink and ascended in the cable car back to my car.  TRUE STORY GOT THE PICS

Shavuot: The First Fruit! (Ruth’s Role in David’s Genealogy)

We have been counting the Omer, from the eve of the second Passover Seder.  We count seven weeks and on the next day i.e. the fiftieth we celebrate Shavuot.  This holy day is called “The Festival Of Weeks” in English.  The Torah’s typical verbal parsimony states that from the day of the first fruits of the barley harvest are brought, count seven weeks and on the next day celebrate Shavuot.  Shavuot literally means “weeks”.  It is on the face of it a purely agricultural event.

However, Shavuot has been attached, or anchored into the Exodus saga.  There are many commentaries and opinions on the question of “which day do we begin the count?”  The Torah only tersely states that the count is to begin after the Sabbath..  The mainstream of rabbinic opinion and Jewish practice is to consider the Passover to be the “Sabbath”, a rest day, and therefore the count begins on the next day.  Others have read it to mean what it says: from the next Sabbath after Passover.  In any case there is a clear connection made between what was once a purely agricultural holiday and the Exodus from Egypt.  (Similarly, there appears to have been an ancient festival of unleavened bread to which a newer meaning is overlaid; that we eat unleavened bread in recognition that the Israelites fleeing Egypt had no time to allow natural rising of leavened dough.)

The written Torah takes us no further in regard to Shavuot.  But there is a major addition made in its understanding through the Tradition that it was on this day that the Torah was given to Moses.  Much apocryphal writing exists on that theme, to which we shall turn to later.

The Christian holiday of Pentecost is Shavuot.  It is well known that pente refers to fifty, and the holiday is the fiftieth day from Easter.  For Messianic Jews, an understanding of this day of Shavuot and its parallels with Pentecost can illuminate many levels of meaning.  One approach is through a deeper understanding of the Book of Ruth.

The Jewish Bible, (or Tanaach) contains the Torah (the five books of Moses), the Prophets, the Writings, and Poetry.  The Book Of Ruth is from the Writings.  Other Writings include Ester, (read at Purim), Lamentations, (Tisha b’av), The Song Of Songs (Shabbot within the week of Passover) and Ecclesiastes (Shabbot within Succoth).

The Book Of Ruth is read on Shavuot.  The mainstream consensus is that it was chosen because its plot unfolds within the time of the barley harvest, and Shavuot is celebration of that same first harvest.  (In The Land, barley is the first harvest and wheat is the next.  And only toward the end of the agricultural season comes the harvest of grapes and olives.)

When Ruth is read quickly on the assumption that its only connection to Shavuot is that they both relate to the barley harvest, its profound symbolism and indeed prophetic qualities are completely missed.  Ruth has much to say to Messianic Jews.

Initially the book seems little more than a sweet story of loyalty and generosity.  It is not classified with the Prophets, but as Writings.  And yet there seems more to it than a mere source of homiletic exhortation. Something clearly messianic is being whispered between the lines. It is about David’s ancestry; and to a Messianic Jew that must say something about Messiah, whether Yeshua or One as of yet unrevealed.  The expectation of the Messiah is considered a cardinal tenet of faith according to Maimonides.  And of course in the daily prayers we pray for the Son of David to return to and restore Jerusalem.

What might we find when we look closer at this book?   This Scroll, Ruth, is the story of the genealogy of David, and as said above, is read on Shavuot, the celebration of the first, the barley harvest.  Shavuot has also become linked with the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai.  And in the B’rit Hadashah  (New Testament) it is on Shavuot that the Ruach HaKodesh (holy spirit) fills the group of believers and allows them to speak in the various tongues.  Jewish believers and believers from all the nations were present in “one place” (Acts2: 1-4) and yet were able to “hear the great things that God has done” in their own languages! So upon this Day of First Fruits the Holy Spirit invited the first Yeshua believers from the nations to become engrafted into God’s nation, Israel!

The Book Of Ruth is the story of the Moabite woman who somehow became the Great Grandmother of David and earned a whole book in the Tanaach to be named for her, and to be listed in the genealogy of Yeshua HaMoshiach. (Mt 1: 5)

The story of Ruth takes place “In the days when the Judges judged (ruled)”.  And because of a famine Elimelech his wife Naomi, and their two sons Mahlon and Chilion left Bethlehem-Judah.  All of these names have meaning.  Eli My God, melech King, so Elimelech means “God is my king”. We learn later in the text that Naomi means “pleasant”. Mahlon, and Chilion mean Sickly and Frailty, respectively.  And because of the famine they must leave Beit LeChem, (Bethlehem: ironically means house of bread).  Further, the family is called Ephratim  (that term reappears toward the end of the book and we will deal with it there.)  And they left to sojourn in the fields of Moab.

Elimelech died leaving Naomi and her two sons alone in Moab. The sons married two Moabite women.  The rabbinic commentators perform feats of contortion to circumvent the plain reading of Deuteronomy 23: 4. “No Ammonite or Moabite shall be admitted into the congregation of the lord; none of their descendents even in the tenth generation shall be admitted into the congregation of the lord, 5. Because they did not meet you with food and water on your journey after you left Egypt, and because they hired Balaam…to curse you”.  One such commentary claims that the taboo only included Moabite males since the term Moabitress is not in the commandment.  Many are content to say that this law in Deuteronomy was not known at this time and place.  I think it is ducking the issue, and if pursued the question may give answers that shed light on other points.

For a brief and uneventful ten years nothing of any import occurs in the story.  That “nothing” actually becomes the “something”, for both young men die, childless.  Their death following their father’s leaves Elimelech’s estate “intestate”, in need of a Redeemer.  As 4:7 later makes clear, when the Israelites came into their land it was divided by lot between the tribes, and then between the clan’s of the tribes and even to the males of the families.  Their allotment was to be considered adherent to their families, and passed from fathers to sons.  It could not be sold.  It could only be leased out if necessary but it had to be returned in the Jubilee years.  In this case, Elimelech’s holdings near Bethlehem had no male inheritors (when one considers the etymology of “intestate” the similarity is apparent!). Therefore it was in need of being redeemed.  The Redeemer was the male who had the right and/or obligation to take the land in the name of the deceased so that it would not pass out of his clan, or tribe, or out of Israelite ownership itself.  This becomes very important to the story later on!

Back at the ranch, the mournful, lonesome trio of widows, Naomi and her two daughters-in-law, were in an untenable situation.  Naomi arose to leave Moab because she heard that the lord had remembered the people (exactly as Moses spoke to the Israelites in Egypt) giving them food (lehem as in Beit Le-hem, Bethlehem!).  As the three started on the road back to the Land of Judah, Naomi blessed her daughters-in-law for all their loving support and loyalty and told them to return to the homes of their mothers.  “May Adenoi deal as kindly with you as you have dealt with the deceased and me.” The girls cry and cling and desire to return to Judah with Naomi.  She reminds them that she is too old to have any more sons, and even if she miraculously married and conceived a son, could Ruth or Orpah wait for him to mature so as to fulfill the levirate marriage custom.  (Levirate marriage was the means for a man’s name and land allotment to be perpetuated if he died without male offspring.  His brother was obliged to take the widow and conceive a son to carry on his brother’s line.)

Finally Orpah said good-bye and went back to the home of her mother.  Ruth did not.  Despite Naomi almost scolding her to do like Orpah and return to her people and her “gods”, Ruth declared her unshakeable commitment: “For where ever you go I will go, where you lodge, I will lodge, your people are my people and your God is my God.”  And she declares that nothing but death will separate her from Naomi.

So Naomi quit arguing and the two continued on until they reached Bethlehem.  When they arrived there the city was in a tumult over them.  (“When he entered Jerusalem the whole city was stirred. ‘ Who is this?’ they asked” MT 21:10-11.)   And the crowds asked, “is this Naomi?”

And so returned Naomi with Ruth, the Moabite, …from the fields of Moab.  They came to Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.

Chapter 2 begins with the narrator telling us that “And, Naomi had a kinsman on her husband’s side, a man of substance from the family of Elimelech whose name (was) Boaz.  Boaz means, “in him is strength”.  The narrator knows this, but the text seems to indicate that Ruth was unaware of this.  Ruth, the Moabite (again the book refuses to allow that fact to be swept under the rug), asks permission of Naomi to go and glean in the field.  It is very interesting that (1.) Naomi is aware of the Torah’s command, in Lev.23: 22 “And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap all the way to the edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the lord your God.”  And interesting that (2.) this pasuk occurs immediately after the explicit instructions given for establishing the holy day of Shavuot! (Lev. 23: 15-21) Which just to remind, is the day on which this book is read!

So, Ruth goes and gleans in the field behind the harvesters.  When the harvesters pass and miss an ear of grain, or one drops to the ground, that ear is not to be harvested, but is to be left for the gleaners.  “And it happened that she came to the part of the field of Boaz.”  (I think we are meant to ask ourselves if she truly happened upon it, or perhaps planned to do so.)  And then coincidentally, Boaz, himself, the important man of the area, and from the family of Elimelech, happens to arrive at the fields, returning from Bethlehem, the regional center.  Boaz immediately blesses his workers (who were probably day-laborers and not people to whom important big shots to would typically defer!)  His workers blessed him in return, both using the name HaShem, the name of God associated with mercy.  (Previously, upon returning, Naomi tells the excited townsfolk not to call her Naomi (pleasant) but Bitter, because Shaddai had dealt bitterly with her.  Shaddai is the name of God in His attribute of strict Justice.)

Boaz notices Ruth, and his foreman tells him that she is the Moabite girl (na’ra young woman, “lass”), who returned with Naomi.  He also tells how she asked if she might glean and then worked without rest almost the whole morning.  Boaz is impressed, perhaps by her beauty, her loyalty to Naomi, and her humility and willingness to work hard.  He speaks to Ruth “Hear me well my daughter” do not glean anywhere else; stay nearby and close to my female workers.  He makes it known to her that he has warned his male workers to keep their distance and that she is to feel free to drink from the jugs that his workers draw.  She falls on her face before him and humbly asks “Why have I found favor in your eyes that you should take note of me, though I a foreigner?”  Boaz’s answer is worth repeating verbatim: “It was fully reported to me all that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband; that you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth and went to a people whom you had not known yesterday or the day before that.  May HaShem repay your actions and may your reward be complete from HaShem the God of Israel, Whom you have come, to seek refuge under His wings.”

He gave her roasted grain to eat and had her continue gleaning, though he made sure that his harvesters “missed” many ears of grain!   Ruth loyally returns to Naomi with an ephah of barley.  When Naomi learns from whom Ruth gleaned she says Baruch hu HaShem, (notably, no longer does she use the name Shaddai.)  “Blessed be the lord Who has not abandoned His kindness with the living and with the dead!”  And Naomi informs Ruth that Boaz is in fact a relative, one of “our” redeemers!  And she instructs her to stay close by his female workers and Ruth does so, and completes the barley harvest and then the wheat harvest as well.

Chapter 3 begins after Ruth spent some time home with Naomi after the harvests were in.  Now the two women sit and Naomi sketches out a general plan to help Ruth find the contentment that she so very much deserves.  Basically the plan is direct and simple.  Ruth is to be bathed, perfumed and dressed in her best outfit.  She is to go down to the threshing floor where Boaz will be found.

Threshing floors are places of importance in Biblical stories.  Perhaps, because they must be open and level spaces they have been the sites of gatherings for various purposes.  Goren, Hebrew for threshing floor, HaAtad, the thorns, is the site where Joseph accompanied by his brothers, and Egyptian elders mourned Jacob’s death.  For seven days they mourned at the Threshing Field of Thorns, (Gen. 50: 10, 11).  More significantly, the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite was bought by David in order to build there an alter to the Lord, the future site of the Temple.  (2Sam 24: 18- 25.) We will return to this connection, for it pertains to the barley harvest as well!

Enough with the threshing floors!  Back to the story: Naomi continues to coach Ruth in the wiles of seduction.  Let Boaz finish eating and drinking but do not let him see you.  Watch where he beds down and then you go, uncover his feet and lie down.  Naomi tells Ruth that Boaz will tell her what to do.  And Ruth says “All that you have said to me I will do”, and she does.

Boaz ate and drank and merry was his heart.  And she came stealthily and uncovered his feet and she lay down.  In the middle of the night he “trembled and turned about and there was a woman lying at his feet”!  When asked she said “I am Ruth your handmaiden, you should spread your wing over your handmaiden for the redeemer are you”.

“May you be blessed by the lord, for your last act of kindness is better than the first inasmuch as you have not turned to young men, poor or rich.”  Boaz appreciates that the young and beautiful Ruth might have reasonably set her sights on other younger men.  Yet, for the sake of Naomi’s husband’s inheritance she is giving herself to Boaz.  He has no illusions and she has given him none to suggest otherwise.  Her first kindness, caring for Naomi in the tragic and lonely years in Moab, and loyally following her back to Bethlehem is superseded by her sacrifice of her youthful life to secure Elimelech’s portion.  In recognition of this Boaz echoes Ruth’s statement to Naomi “And now my daughter, do not fear.  All that you say I will do for you.”

Ruth’s declaration of love and oath of allegiance to Naomi were not enough.  As commendable as that was it did not change her status of being a Moabite, and therefore being ineligible to marry an Israelite; and there is nothing in the story to supersede the direct statement in Deuteronomy that not even the tenth generation of Moabite is allowed to do so.  Rather than just accept that the author of Ruth was not knowledgeable of Deuteronomy, or that the Torah is imperfect I have been trying to reconcile this apparent contradiction.

Elimelech died; (name= My God Is King).  Then Ruth’s and Orpah’s husbands (his sons) died.  Therefore Naomi’s land had no male heir.  Only since both of Naomi’s sons died without producing any children did their property revert to Naomi. And since Naomi was widowed their land in Judah was in need of being redeemed.  So Boaz redeemed Naomi’s property.  Ruth, who could not inherit, instead became inherited by Boaz with the land!  In the name of Yeshua are not the nations redeemed and engrafted into the tree of Israel?  And of course this book involving the barley harvest (first fruits), is read on Shavuot celebrating the first fruit, and states that Ruth also gleaned into the wheat harvest.
Yeshua ate the Pesah Lamb with His disciples on the First Seder of Passover, recalled in Christendom as The Last Supper.  Although one can say He was like the Pesah Lamb, He could not be it, for he ate it!  But He was like another Lamb.  Leviticus 23: And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12 And you shall offer on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the Lord.
Every year there are debates about which “Sabbath” is the Sabbath of Lev. 23:11.  It is important, for it is from that day that the counting down to Shavuot begins. Ironically mainstream Jewish practice is to consider the 15thof Nisan to be that Sabbath.  Many newly Torah Observant Messianics will count from the next seventh day Shabbot.  But if done with Jewish custom we will see that Yeshua was elevated, taken up off the cross before the sun set on the 15th.  Jews count the Omer from the day Yeshua was elevated.  Yeshua is the Perfect Yearling Lamb given as and for the First Fruits!
Passover, and the First Seder begin as the light of Nisan 14 fades away into Nisan 15.  Yeshua finished the Seder, requested that the last of the Seder table Matzo (the Afikomen) and the last cup of wine be done in remembrance of him.  Returning to Gethsemane to sweat out the last night aware that in the morning his torment will ensue, it was still the 15th.  When the Romans, brought by Judas Iscariot arrived to arrest Him it was the 15th.
So… perhaps Elimelech stands for Yeshua the suffering servant whose death initiates the story.  Yeshua the son of Mary, son of Israel would have affirmed the sentiment “My God is King” (Elimelech).  And despite Churchianity’s dogma, Yeshua never equated himself with God!  God is HIS king

Boaz, at the other end of the story, whose name means “With Power”, is the Messiah, The Lamb in Revelation, whose return at the end of history will be with power and glory.

The Two Benjamins

I think it is very relevant that Paul is of the tribe of Benjamin.

Think of King Saul. There is a similarity in the roles of Saul and Paul (Saul) of Tarsus.  Both absolutely can be described as exhibiting the tendency to accept small loss for a greater gain.

Both were perhaps overly “pragmatic”. King Saul would not await Samuel’s arrival. The tactical situation demanded military action then ad there. It was also impractical to slaughter the choicest of the Amalekites cattle, and women. And having a King alive as one’s captive is perhaps more useful than having him dead. (A captive King could be made a puppet, or ransomed.)

King Saul was physically strong, large, an alpha male type. He was able to unify the Israelites to expel the Philistines from at least enough contiguous space for a Kingdom to arise. How he did so may not have been entirely up to Samuel’s standards.

Paul, as self-described Apostle to the Gentiles was out to spread the news of Yeshua. What he did was to take Judaism, which by definition can be said to be the religion of the Jews, with its particularity as to place, Jerusalem, and to its God, the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, and deracinate its essence so as to allow universal entry.

He succeeded because it was God’s will that Christianity would become the religion of Rome, and thus Europe, and thus be spread throughout the entire world. As Joseph said to his brothers( in regard to their selling him down to Egypt), though the Church Fathers meant it for evil (the anti-Judaizing and anti-Semitic blood bathes), God meant it for good. Like Joseph whose suffering saved Israel and the surrounding nations, the suffering of the Jews, the Aztecs, Incas, the natives of all the world allowed the Church Militant to spread the Bible throughout all the world. This allows individuals to read, to pray, and for THE FEW to choose the Narrow path. The Gift of opening the door to the world to come; i.e. membership in Beit Yisrael, cost Yeshua, and the Jews much suffering. But, though Popes, Priests, Princes, in pomp and pride meant it for evil, God meant it for GOOD.

King Saul, and the Apostle Saul, the two Benjaminites were necessary but NOT sufficient. The one had to give way to David and the tribe of Judah; and the other, Paul’s Church will give way to the SON OF DAVID  and a small remnant who are called out of her. The Church is the Plant. Its purpose is not to be a plant, but to produce fruit. The Fruit are the Torah Observant formerly Lost Sheep, coming out of Sunday Churchianity yet still unaware they are Lost Israelites, and the few true Gentiles whose salvation is the crumbs at the children’s feet:

(Matt. 15:22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”And her daughter was healed at that moment.)

Unfortunately the Church thinks it is the Fruit and not the sower of seed.

Karat, Cut-off: Is Not Forever;

If not for the crucifixion of Yeshua AND his resurrection there would no Churchianity. Churchianity was the necessary vehicle that brought Tanakh to every corner of the world wherever lost sheep have settled.
Amos 9:9
For I will give the command, and I will shake the people of Israel among all the nations
as grain is shaken in a sieve,
and not a pebble will reach the ground.
If not for the Church the world would not know about sin. Without knowledge of Sin, and of the Creator God who offers eternal life through marriage, there is no hope of salvation for anyone but the Jewish People.
Yeshua suffered death on a cross at least partially to fulfill prophecy (as the Jewish believers at the time understood it). Fulfilling Prophecy and then rising from death produced a huge banner waving through history! (Like the bronze Seraph in Bamidbar) If his death and resurrection did no more than AMAZE enough people to gain believers to eventually create Churchianity, it would be sufficient; dayanu. His command go to: GO to the LOST SHEEP OF ISRAEL. (Jews are NOT Lost!)
When Moses was with Go* the people built themselves a Golden Calf. This sustained them until Moses’ return. When Yeshua returns the Golden Calf, the Church will be overturned. Those who have heard with their ears and knocked and entered into Beit Yisrael will be spared. But all who bow before the Golden Calf will be left out. The Golden Calf is the WIDE PATH. Narrow is the path of the wise. Those who would sell the entire Golden Edifice of Churchianity and buy the humble field with a priceless pearl in it will see the Kingdom. Outside there will be MUCH wailing and gnashing of teeth. It is Beit Israel and Beit Israel alone that will be in the world to come. Jews thus do NOT need Yeshua to become engrafted since they are already in! Lost (or formerly lost) Israelites and the few from the nations and Jews (without Karet) are to be in the world to come.
EX. 12:15 For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel.
Change emphasis: ” … for whosoever eateth chumetz will be cut off from the first day to the seventh day.
Psalm 90:4
New International Version (NIV)
4 A thousand years in your sight

are like a day that has just gone by,

or like a watch in the night.
It is said that the world will last 6,000 days, and then will be the Sabbath Millennium.
REV.20:1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for A THOUSAND YEARS. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the THOUSAND YEARS were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

7 WHEN THE THOUSAND YEARS ARE OVER Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

KERET IS NOT FOREVER! After the 7th day a judgement will occur. These are all Israelites. They will have the option of having their sins washed in the blood of “grapes” of Yeshua. There will be no doubt at that time that Yeshua is LORD.

The Jewish People and B’nai Yisrael

Keeping the Law does not make someone a Jew.  Having a Jewish mother, or being adopted into a Jewish family confers this dubious privilege.   And even that is necessary but not sufficient.  It is nothing to be proud of, nor ashamed.  Why people take pride in their ancestry is mysterious to me. How can you take pride in something that you had no part in creating?

A sort of Venn diagram can aid the definition of the term “the Jewish People”.  I will explain what I mean after a brief summary of the relevant Genealogy in the Tanakh.

Abraham was to be the father of nations.  On Mount Moriah the voice of the Angel of The Lord commanded him to not harm the lad.  Isaac would not be sacrificed, and a ram was provided in his stead.  Abraham passed this test of faith.  His faith perhaps was faith in YHVK’s faithfulness.  Back in Genesis 17: 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 1Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.”  Therefore on Mount Moriah, Abraham was demonstrating that he believed the lord.  He was about to sacrifice his son.  Unless G~d did something unexpected, he would be unable to be a father of many nations nor could he ever be said to be “very fruitful”.  Abraham was trusting in G~d’s keeping faith with His promise.

After the Voice of the Angel of the lord stilled his hand two pairs of promises were given.
Gen. 22:17-18: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
”  One: his progeny would number as the stars and stand in the gate of their foes.  Two: his progeny would number like the sand on the shore, and the nations will be blessed through him.
I maintain that the two pairs of future blessings traveled through Isaac, and to Jacob.  Whether or not Esau was slated for one of the pairs is unclear; probably not, there are no accidents in scripture.  Esau “despised” his birthright.  We know the story of Esau, his love of the hunt, and Isaac’s love of the tasty game he brought him.  Isaac loved the elder twin even if he was older by only a moment.   One fine day Esau returned from a hunt, famished; ravenous.  Jacob his brother took advantage of the situation by offering him stew, if Esau would relinquish his birthright.  Esau perhaps thought that nothing he could say would alienate him from the rights of being the first-born.  “Sure” OK, Jake, whatever.”
When Isaac was old and blind, we all know the story of Rebecca nearly forcing Jacob into impersonating his brother and slipping in to get Isaac’s blessing.  Whatever the reason, the pair of promises continued together one more generation.   Jacob fled the wrath of Esau, and set off to the land of his mother seeking a wife.  He was tricked in turn by Laban, Leah and Rachel.  He worked seven long years for Rachel, the beautiful young woman he had first met by the well.  But the next morning after the wedding, he awoke with her elder sister.  An agreement to work another seven years gained him Rachel.  Both were given with their handmaidens.  Leah the elder daughter, his first wife, was not so beautiful or well loved.  But G~d opened her womb and she bore four sons in quick succession. Rachel, like Sarah before her, gave Jacob her maidservant to be a surrogate mother to produce a son for him.  She did, she bore two sons.   Leah’s maidservant was sent into the fray and bore two more.   One fine day Leah’s eldest son, Reuben, brought back דודאים, “mandrakes”.  Whatever they were, they apparently were known as some kind of fertility enhancer, with perhaps a Viagra-like effect.  (Poor Jacob may have been tired from having the needs of four women to see to.) Rachel remained his wife number one.  When Rachel saw Leah’s son Reuben with his find, she bargained for them.  Leah would give the “mandrakes” to Rachel, and in return Leah would have the hire of Jacob.  Leah popped out two more.  Finally, Rachel became pregnant.  She bore Joseph.  Thus Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son.  He was long awaited and he was the son through the woman he loved.
The two poles of B’nai Yisrael are now seen.  The two pairs of blessings are now divided between Leah (and Zilpah) and Rachel (and Bilhah).  Benjamin the twelfth son was born to Rachel on the road to Jacob’s home.  She died after labor, and was buried on the side of the road near Bethlehem.  Now all twelve of the sons were Jacob’s sons.  They all were to be the Patriarchs of Israel.  Each was to a degree a representative of the whole. This is a fractal-like concept.  However, there was a spectrum that was spread between the two poles; Leah’s first born, and Rachel’s first born.  Reuben slept with one of his father’s wives.  That ended his functional status as Leah’s firstborn.  Simeon and Levy made Jacob odorous in the land by massacring the men of Shechem because of the seduction of their sister Dinah.  They too were crossed of the functional firstborn list.  This left Judah, as the functional acting firstborn of Leah.  Joseph was the first born of Rachel.  Now the two pairs of blessings are separated.
The subject was the Jewish People.  My contention is that the two promises given in Genesis; and the prophetic meaning of Ezekiel 37 mark the beginning and end of dual promises.   The entire arc of history has run in the story of the separation and promise of reunion of the two strands.  Ez.37: 15 And the word of HaShem came unto me, saying

16. ‘And thou, son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it: For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions; then take another stick, and write upon it: For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and of all the house of Israel his companions;

17.and join them for thee one to another into one stick, that they may become one in thy hand.

18.And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying: Wilt thou not tell us what thou meanest by these?

19.say into them: Thus saith the L-rd GOD: Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions; and I will put them unto him together with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in My hand.

20. And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thy hand before their eyes.

21. And say unto them: Thus saith the L-rd GOD: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, whither they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land;

22. and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel, and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all;

23. neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them out of all their dwelling-places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them; so shall they be My people, and I will be their G-d.

24. And My servant David shall be king over them, and they all shall have one shepherd; they shall also walk in Mine ordinances, and observe My statutes, and do them.

25. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob My servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, for ever; and David My servant shall be their prince for ever.

26. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them–it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will establish them, and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them for ever.

27. My dwelling-place also shall be over them; and I will be their G-d, and they shall be My people.

28. And the nations shall know that I am HaShem that sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for ever.’

As of today, the tribes of Ephraim of Joseph and those associated with him are missing in action.  They are the so-called Lost Tribes of Israel.  It is important to understand that they are not lost groups of Jewish people nor even Judeans.
Though unknown, they must exist.  Since they are associates of Ephraim, Joseph’s son, they are representing the Racheline pole.  And as Rachel was physically beautiful, they are powerful worldly peoples.  In other words who ever they are, they must be hiding in plain sight.  Powerful nations with populations numbering as the stars in heavens are not to be identified as isolated bands of mountain folk in some lost valley of the Caucasus.   But we will leave that for another occasion.
The second pair of promises is the one we will be concerned with now.
The first promise used the “number as the stars in heavens” metaphor.  This is very clear and straightforward.  However, this is not the case with the metaphor in the second pair.

Once more: Gen. 22:17,18 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
As Messianic or Mainstream Jews, we believe the Messiah shall either return, or arrive finally.  We believe he will be The Son of David.  David, a Judean, wrested the Kingship from Saul, a Benjaminite.  He came from Bethlehem Ephrates.  We believe the Messiah either has or will come from Bethlehem, David’s family’s seat.  (This is why Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem when Yeshua was born.  They both traced their genealogy through David.  When the census was taken everyone had to return to his family’s seat.)   King David was of Judean lineage.  So, it is pretty clear that the second pair of promises must apply to “Judah, and the tribes associated with him” as per Ezekiel 37.  OK, now to the heart of the matter.
Everything above was to get here:
Unlike the straightforward “numbering as the stars in heaven” the “sands of the shore” is not so clear.   Torah knows how to say the “sand of the sea” as in Genesis 32:12 (13 in JPS/Westminster Leningrad/ Complete Jewish Bible), and Genesis 41:49.  32:12 (13)And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. Gen. 41:49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number. Both verses use the same Hebrew:  םהי כחול.
Only in the promises given on Mount Moriah is the phrase “like the sands ON the shore” used.
Genesis 22:17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies.
הַיָּ֑ם עַל־שְׂפַ֣ת  אֲשֶׁ֖ר  וְכַחֹ֕ול
In the entire Torah, only here, at Genesis 22:17 is the metaphor for a great number given specifically as “as the sand ON the shore”.  In Genesis 32: 12 (13), and 41:49 the similar “like sand OF the sea” is used.  There is a difference. And this is a difference with a very large distinction!

The sand on the shore”, seems somewhat strange.  The shore is sand, is it not?  Well yes and no.  But the shore accounts for only a tiny amount of the sand of the sea.  The number of the sands of the shore requires a mental Venn diagram to define.

First, we must address the definition of shore.  (Recall that nothing like this is required to understand the number of progeny in the first pair of promises, “like the stars in the heavens”.)  The shore first off, is a non-fixed thing.  It is the constantly moving place where the edge of the sea laps the land.  Every cycle of the tide changes the shoreline.  Every wave changes the edge of the sea.  It is also a measurement directly influenced by the scale used to measure it.  For instance, imagine a map of the continent of Europe.  Now imagine the island of Britain.  To determine the shoreline one need only trace the outline of the island, and measure that length and multiply by the scale.  However, as the scale diminishes the length increases.  For instance imagine a road atlas of Britain.  The outline of the island is present.  However, only the larger features relevant to an understanding of locations is given.  Now imagine the map of the island that a human being might make if he or she hiked around the very edge.  This would be far, far longer than the length calculated by the roadmap’s scale.  Features of say a footstep size must be included in the perimeter.  The small foot size zigzags are not present at large scale maps.  But when one zooms in, with small-scale mapping, the measured perimeter increases markedly.  Now, imagine again, one is an ant that has walked clear around the island.  The relevant scale of the map it created would take into account every jig and jag of every pebble or stone lining the water.  This would be an order of magnitude longer than the perimeter calculated by the walking human. Now, imagine one is a mite.  Its trek around the island might be thousands of times longer than that of the ant!  It becomes evident that perimeter is a function of scale.  We usually do not think of scale as being relevant to perimeter, and often get away with just considering it as directly related to the area around which it lies.  Though this works in our normal frames of reference it is however false.  To think about the sand on the shore it is necessary to understand the strange nature of that measurement.  The closer one looks, the longer it becomes.  In addition, it is always in flux.  The number of sand grains on the shore must be understood as the intersection of constantly changing sets.
To be a part of the Jewish People, one must be either born of a Jewish mother or adopted into a Jewish family.  However, that is merely one of the set requirements.  It is like being sand of the sea.  However, it is wet sand, under the water that is on the shore.  To further the analogy, one must be anointed with some spiritual desire in order to be counted as a Jewish person, (by Biblical standards, please, we are not discussing cultural-only Jews, of the bagels and lox variety!)  Still further, it is not just the set of sand grains lying under the water, but those that also frequently lie above the water that make up the sand on the shore.  If always under water, it is not in the set, and if never under water it is also not in the set.  The Jewish People must include those who are sand, at the edge of the sea, sometimes wet, and sometimes dry.  In other words a member of a specific People fulfills one set.  But one must be anointed with a spiritual sense of seeking.  And one must make the effort to hear and obey the lord.  To hear and obey sometimes, and at other times not so much, causes the set to be ever-changing; yet also inclusive of the temporarily dry grains; those dry their entire low tide cycle; or those only occasionally dry at the high point of the low tide, or those only occasionally wet, at the high tide in a high sea with large waves.
To be a Jew is to be a member of a corporate group.  It is potentially a very large group, but not infinite.  It requires one’s understanding that they are members, and that requires the performance of Gd’s will; i.e. doing Mitzvot.   Must they keep the entire Law, all the time?  No, they need not do so.  To the degree that they do they are better Jews.  But the acknowledgement of The Law, and the acknowledgement that the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is identical with the Creator G~d, is enough to maintain one’s membership in B’nai Yisrael, and thus the corporate salvation that implies.

“Judaism’s” Foundational Event: The Revelation At Sinai Is Not Dependent On The “Three Million”

” A Rational Approach To The Origins Of Judaism” has been floating around the FB world.  Despite the comments that I disagree with everything, I really do not.  However agreement requires a mere check of “like”, or nothing at all. Disagreement requires thought.   For some reason this deeply annoyed me.  I often explore in writing, why certain articles, videos etc annoy me.  If nothing lese it organizes my thoughts.   Many others have posted favorable opinions.  I want to differentiate the belief in the Divine Origin of B’Nai Yisrael (which the Lecturer in Comparative Religions ought to know is not synonymous with the title he chose) with accepting the argument for it given here.   This lecture which so many of you find to be powerful, is a testament to the corrosive effects of modern “education”.  Clarity of thought and definitions are necessary.  To be clear I absolutely believe in the Divine Origin of B’nai Yisrael, but this argument is childish and fallacious, and unnecessarily disrespectful of other religions.
A typical secular assimilated Jew is off to college.  He studies Late 17th Century Christian Literature with a mind to knocking all religions.  And as is commonly practiced in modern academics the scope of study is so specialized that any useful generalities are lost in a sea of detail.  This makes every academic specialty an independent realm of its own, unavailable to the general knowledge seeker, and absolutely off limits for critique by those not inducted into the specialty.
He claims that people seeking religions do so by being attracted by the promises of the religion to make this life better, make one a better worker, family man or woman,  ensure a good seat in the next world, inner peace in this world etc.  But he does not include the search for Truth as even a possibility of motive.  He is so steeped in secularism that the concept of TRUTH is missing from his mental vocabulary.  The first four years of undergrad work are designed in part to remove any last remnants of Modernism that the student’s family may have inculcated despite 24/7 MTV slutorama.  They must be stripped of all tendencies to think in rationalist style, seeking The Truth, as Newton, or Galileo did.  They must be brought to the recognition that the certainty of science, morals, political philosophy, and the rising importance of individual Liberty of the Modern Age which is associated with the entity formerly known as The West, or even more formerly Christendom; has been found to be a myth.  This myth must be deconstructed and replaced with Post-Modern certainty that nothing is certain.  Newtonian Physics is seen as a myth, replaced by Relativity, and/or Quantum Mechanics.  Though physicists understand the actual relationship is that Newtonian Physics is a special case of Relativity, the Chair of Political Science does not; (nor does the Chair of Women’s Studies or Black studies nor the Gay Lesbian Queer Department).
The Professor sets up a strawman argument that is designed to bring down Revelatory Religions.  The students’ laughter is evoked at the exact correct places in his discourse as he uses the standard comedic style of cloaking ancient stories in modern garb.  These students are la’crème du la crème.  They have been thoroughly indoctrinated implicitly with the message that there is no absolute Truth, nor any absolute Morality.  Even those who at first resisted this affront to their personal beliefs were at first intimidated and then shamed at being so manipulated greedily grasped at the hand that read “NO SHAME”.  The initial skeptics became the staunchest little Stalinists.  They return home in the summer of their freshman year, seeking the slightest hint of their parents’ old-fashioned values.  Since they are second or even third generation Post-Moderns they must reach deeply to find the sins of their parents assumptions.  This generates a vicious cycle of more and more radical dispossession of commonsense.  From anti-racism, they must be apologists for black reparations and more affirmative action that is of course their own best interests.  From passively accepting Gay existence, they must work to impose its acceptance as just one more flavor of human choices, like vanilla chocolate or sodomy.  But I veer.
The canned-like laughter of the students betrays their pathetic openness to evil.  It is telling where and when the laughter is heard.  It is to be predicted anytime the lecturer voices the strawman pronouncement of revelation. His tone of voice alerts them to the fact that he is expecting them to mock the same things he does.
In particular:
All Religions have The Revelatory Story.  This phrase in intoned in such a manner as to telegraph its “ludicrous” nature.
Shaul, a nice Jewish man is struck blind on the road to Damascus.  He alone sees and hears the life story of Jesus.  He starts a new religion.  He changes his name to Paul, and he is on his way.  (Hahahahaha!)  No one else shares his revelation. Hahahaha.
Islam was founded on the basis of Mohammed having “what sounds like an epileptic fit” and wiping the foam off his mouth begins dictating bits and pieces of what will be called the Holy Quran.  Hahahahahah!  Not that I am a Muslim, but why does the occurrence of a meaningful vision in an epileptic fit preclude its validity?  Is it not possible that the person is struck by the Divine, and it is that whichresults in both seizure and revelation?  Or perhaps seizure is the mechanism used?  The perception of the experience is just as real if not more so than any other life experience.  To dismiss this phenomenon as “only” the result of brain activity, is to dismiss everything one will ever experience as “mere brain activity”.  This is glib and evident of a person who has not even tried to understand the depth of Humanity’s spirituality.

Merely Joseph Smith’s (Hahaha) name and its intonation signal “Laugh Now”.  The dutiful students (all of whom would describe themselves as very free-thinkers) laugh as one.  Yes Joseph Smith walking about the mountains in New York State came upon golden tablets and a “handy” (Hahaha) “Reformed Egyptian-English Dictionary” (Hahaha).  He uses the one to translate the other and then decides it would be “a great idea to destroy them because after translating the plates who needs them any longer!”  Hahaha.  This intonation is the standard Sarc-1 level of sarcasm as defined by Tom Wolfe in “I Am Charlotte Simmons” a novel studiously ignored by the politically correct, as it should be.
It would be ludicrous to just destroy the Golden Tablets handed him by the Angel Moroni (unmentioned by the professor).  It is just as ludicrous as Moses destroying the tablets inscribed by the Hand of YHVK, at least!
Buddha, Siddhartha Guatama alone ascended the Heavens but elected to return to us wretched souls to share his Revelation.  There are Forty-four other ascended masters, according to Siddhartha Guatama.  But this is “shown only” to him.  So he again is the Lone Seer!
Now to prove that the Lecturer was planning on taking on his own Judaism as well he trots out Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and mocks anyone for believing based on their story.  And the Professor takes a shot at the audacity of non-religion specialists for the temerity to venture an opinion at all!  The academic tyranny of Specialization is evidenced here.
All this to get to the old, “but ‘Judaism’s’ foundational event was the giving of the Torah on Sinai.  “Six hundred thousand men, so “three million ‘Jews’ (Hahaha MY turn to laugh) were encamped in the desert and all heard the LORD speak to them.
We are told by the Professor of his ninety days long attempt to figure out how this type of lie could be propagated.  If three million witnesses were there, then there are three million potential whistleblowers!  Wouldn’t it become an obvious lie, if this story were told to those who knew it did not happen?  All on had to do was ask Aunt Rose (Hahaha).
Now, despite the half hour build up, the Professor is either lying or has kept himself isolated from any Jewish apologetics!  This of course is a common justification and would not require three months (of fasting and praying in the wilderness before he received this divine revelation?) to discover!
He quickly goes off into a more academic discussion of the three types of Revelatory Lies potentially capable of tricking many people.  But before we follow his quick steps, let us consider what we might reply if we were as scientific and objective as he claims he is.  If I were truly a skeptic I would quickly have added Moses’ convenient smashing of the Tablets (as I wrote above), and the fact that actually of the “three million” witnesses present at Sinai not one was alive to enter into Ha’aretz Yisrael!  Only Joshua and Caleb remained of the witnesses at Sinai!  Oops.
The fact that “six hundred thousand” is sometimes taken to mean six hundred families by other Academics, though they typically are Theology experts seeking to demystify the Exodus story, does not seem to have entered his very tiny window onto the world.  This protects academicians from having to deal with the logical impossibly of clashing opinions among the equally enlightened post-moderns.

His quick step is to list the three possibilities of when The Revelatory Lie is introduced to the fake religions.
The Present: He launches into a “comedic” version of the Applegate/Heaven’s Gate tragedy.  By talking in the Sarc-1 voice of “yeah right!” he described how Applegate a man with history of major depressive disorder* convinced “well educated” young adults “many with advanced degrees” that they can shed this stale mortal coil and pass with him through Heaven’s Gate.  Because this horror happened in their back door the UCSD Cult “experts” research project” scientifically studied every detail of this event.  What would an expert do if not science?
(*I am citing the professor, as I have no independent knowledge here. And I don’t feel like checking it out myself.)
Unlike the Professor I am not surprised in the least that it would be “well-educated” Yuppies, if you will, that would think self-castration followed by overdosing on Phenobarbital before tying a plastic bag over ones head was a good idea.  I don’t think Joe The Plumber would be Heaven’s gate material!  But it is his cloying tone of voice, that Sarc-1 of polite understatement with the underlying sanctimonious superiority that really annoys.  Hmm yes who would think that was a good idea?  Actually he meant to say, “what lunatics would do such a thing”.  The irrelevant detail of wearing Black Nikes is a way of adding pointless detail as a way to further mock the Leader’s Instructions.  Sort of like tying Blue threads to ones Tziztis and checking them on line to the gas chamber.  That too might not “be a good idea”.
So now we have the Academically impressive sounding “The Applegate Theorem”.  I suppose this lecturer will gain tenure and a life time of dining out on that! Maybe it will find its way into some arcane academic journal that no one reads except the very small numbers of inductees in a specific specialty.  Maybe The Journal Of Twentieth Century Californian New Age Cults and Cultists will publish it and the man will have achieved immortality.  This is after all his chosen Religion.
Anyway this has become boring and I will not even lose any sleep over not learning his “bombshell”.  Or maybe I will skip to the end.

On Lamentations, (Eicah) and Tisha B’Av

The Book Of Lamentations is read on Tisha B’Av.  Tisha B’Av means simply the Ninth (Tisha) of the Hebrew month of Av.  This is a day “made for misfortunes”.  Rabbinic Tradition names several misfortunes as falling on this same day.  (Recall, that the Hebrew Calendar differs from our solar calendar in that it is primarily based upon the Moon, with some tweaking to keep the months from drifting out of their proper seasons.)
This “day for misfortunes” includes many of the traumatic days of Jewish History.  The major events are the Destructions of The Temples.  The Babylonians burned the Temple, built by Solomon, during the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah.

The Babylonians burned the Temple on Tisha B’Av.  Five Hundred years later the Romans burned the Second Temple; on Tisha B’Av.  After the final Jewish War, the Romans plowed-under the grounds of the temple and its surroundings.  Again on Tisha B’Av.

Long before the Temple was built, before even Israel returned to The Land of the Patriarchs, Tisha B’Av had already begun its tradition as a “day for misfortunes”.  When the Spies returned to the camp after scouting out The Land for forty days, they agreed that it was a great land, but that they would be unable to conquer it, for the size of the inhabitants.  The returning spies spoke of cities of mighty walls, and that they were as grasshoppers in their own eyes compared to the inhabitants.  They exaggerated and claimed they saw Nephilim there.  The Israelites bewailed their fate.  They wept and complained to Moses for taking them out of Egypt and the “soft life” of slavery.
The Israelites had just witnessed the plagues on Egypt, the splitting of the sea, the appearance of the Glory of God at Sinai.  Yet, fear overcame them, and panic spreads like a disease.  The people even threatened Moses. YHVH offered to make him the father of a mighty nation instead of Israel.  Moses’ pleas for mercy for the people were answered.  However, YHVH decreed that not one of the men of military age at the time of the Spies would live to see the Land.  This decree: on Tisha B’Av.

Skipping ahead, England exiled its Jews on Tisha B’Av in the reign of Edward the Confessor.  Spain gave Tisha B’Av of 1492 as the deadline for Jews to be out of Spain, or to have converted to Roman Catholicism.

World War I is said to have begun on Tisha B’Av.  This day of misfortune included the entire world.  When asked where Hitler was born the “wit”, Lady Astor quickly said “in Versailles”.  For the Treaty of Versailles ending officially WWI laid the groundwork for the economic and political collapse of Germany, and for the rise of Adolf Hitler.(Though, with misfortune comes opportunity: the British conquest of the Ottoman Empire opened up the potential for a Jewish National Homeland. In this light, it has been postulated that The Messiah will be born on this day.  It will be He who restores the world to Edenic beauty and morality.)

Jeremiah wrote this book “Lamentations” or in Hebrew “Eicah” in an “alphabetical” anagram: with each verse (or set of verses) beginning with Alef, then Bet, then Gimel etc to Tav, the final letter in the Hebrew alphabet.  However, in chapters 2, 3 and 4, Jeremiah reverses the order at letter 16 and 17.  In these chapters letter 17 Pe, precedes Ayin letter16.

Eichah, the name of the book comes from the first word of significance in the first sentence; as most of the Hebrew names of the Biblical books are derived.  Eichah means “Alas”. 1 HOW DOTH the city sit solitary that was full of people! How is she become as a widow! She that was great or greatest among the nations, and princes among the provinces, how is she become tributary!

2 She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; she hath none to comfort her among all her lovers; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.

These verses are perfect to describe the day of the Babylonian Burning, and the entire period of Diaspora and even more relevant now, this very period in World Affairs.  For now, Jerusalem is full of people.  Yet, Judah or even the splendor of the United Kingdom of Solomon has not been great among the nations for this entire period.  Despite the building of the Second Temple, those who lived to see both said that if one only saw the second Temple and not the First, that person never saw a great temple or a beautiful building.  Even in its latter years when Herod the “Great” lavished wealth on the Temple to ingratiate himself with the Jewish People, the nation was clearly not powerful.  It can be said that from the time of the Babylonian catastrophe until this very day, the greatest of nations has become as a tributary.  But if one reads this as both Historical (not as history per se, but as Biblical history with license) and as Prophetic foreshadowing it may cause shivers.   For even under Solomon it is hard to understand Israel as the Greatest Nation.  But the United States, hmmm.  Ironically, the weekend before Tisha B’Av this year, 2011, (5771 after Creation) the USA for the first time lost its triple A credit rating.  Yesterday, actually in the afternoon, well after sunset in Jerusalem (when the 9th of Av had already begun), the US Stock Markets plunged to a depth of stunning proportion.  Today the volatility is palpable as the Dow plunges and soars, all the while Gold climbs.  And these verses will pertain to the modern state of Israel if they maintain more faith in America than the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  “She has no comforters for all her lovers”.  America, more so than the State of Israel, has had “lovers” among the nations.  We bailed out Europe during and after two world wars and a cold war.  We opened our markets to the world’s commerce to help jump-start the devastated economies of Europe, Japan and China.  Which of our Lovers recalls us with fondness?  And Ancient Israel: Egypt was her lover.  Solomon married the daughter of the Pharaoh, and it is said that Michael the Archangel rammed a staff into the sea, and surrounded it with stones and mud.  It became a great forest, which eventually became Rome!  Five hundred years after Solomon, Israel leaned upon Egypt as an ally against Babylon.  Jeremiah’s writings are filled with exhortations to not put faith in Egypt.  Egypt will be as a weak reed that shall shatter and cut your hand when it is leaned on in the time of need.  The punishment meted out to Egypt for this infidelity will be great, yet, nevertheless, Jerusalem fell and Nebuchadnezzar conquered.  Joseph, as Vizier of Egypt was given the daughter of the Egyptian priest of On to marry.  His sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, therefore have Egyptian as well as Israelite potential.  In Genesis Jacob blesses Ephraim Joseph’s younger son over that of the elder.  Ephraim would expand and spread over many nations.  He would be like a commonwealth of nations.  Many have read “commonwealth” and reflexively seen the British Commonwealth and struggled to rectify the younger and elder business.  Nevertheless, the English Speaking world rose to Global Preeminence, beyond any previous hegemon.  It is Britain that is called “Great”.  When Joseph complained to his father that he was blessing the younger before the elder, Jacob said I know, I know my son.  This is how it will be.  Yet the younger too shall be Great.  Great; Great Britain.  Today, (written last year last year 2011)  on Tisha B’Av the City Of London is aflame for the first time in history, not from invaders or would be invaders, but from its own youth.  It is hard to get a clear picture of just what demographic is pushing hardest at bringing down the System, but it is well known that many call London, Londonistan.  London can easily be considered a City that was Great with people and as the seat of the world reaching British Empire; she was truly a princess among tributaries.  But not today!  It seems that both the pillars of the Anglophone World are under siege, today.  Though both had been descending into apostasy for years, it is as if a tipping point has been reached. (This year, 2012, London is host to the neo-pagan spectacle of the Olympics!  Opening tonight as Tisha B’Av begins. Strangely there has been much talk about certain events transpiring in London this week that will be seen to represent giant steps on the road to Global Government.

3 Judah is gone into exile because of affliction, and because of great servitude; she dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest; all her pursuers overtook her within the straits.

4 The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; all her gates are desolate, her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.

5 Her adversaries are become the head, her enemies are at ease; for HaShem hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions; her young children are gone into captivity before the adversary.

6 And gone is from the daughter of Zion all her splendour; her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.

Verse 5: Her adversaries are become the head.  Our enemies are at ease.  Listen to China, a nation of a billion dirt-poor peasants, with a nouveau riche upper class of a few million, lecture America on how to run an economy!  Well, actually, that is correct.  For America’s wealth came not from “running” or controlling the economy, but from leaving it to prosper, and having social admiration for success, not bitter class envy.  Russia, mocks the USA as a weak has been.  Even Iran’s dictator fears us not, nor the Tin Pot Chavez.  Look at 7. Jerusalem remembereth in the days of her affliction and of her anguish all her treasures that she had from the days of old; now that her people fall by the hand of the adversary, and none doth help her, the adversaries have seen her, they have mocked at her desolations.
The nations we rescued, and went to war to protect, (Japanese aggression upon China is what began the alienation of America from Japan, leading to Pearl Harbor), and opened our markets to help revive, now mock us!
8. Jerusalem hath grievously sinned, therefore she is become as one unclean; all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness; she herself also sigheth, and turneth backward.

9 Her filthiness was in her skirts, she was not mindful of her end; therefore is she come down wonderfully, she hath no comforter. ‘Behold, O HaShem, my affliction, for the enemy hath magnified himself.’

10 The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her treasures; for she hath seen that the heathen are entered into her sanctuary, concerning whom Thou didst command that they should not enter into Thy congregation.

11 All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for food to refresh the soul. ‘See, O HaShem, and behold, how abject I am become.’

And so it goes through the end of Chapter one.  But let us note that the acrostic is in alphabetical order.  This proves that the latter reversals of Ayin with Pe are not indicating a different order of letters at this time, or an erroneous understanding on the part of Jeremiah.

16 ‘For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water; because the comforter is far from me, even he that should refresh my soul; my children are desolate, because the enemy hath prevailed.’

17 Zion spreadeth forth her hands; there is none to comfort her; HaShem hath commanded concerning Jacob, that they that are round about him should be his adversaries; Jerusalem is among them as one unclean.

Notice the correct order of Ayin and Pe ע, פ.
CHAPTER 2:  Here we will take a deeper look at the reversal of Ayin and Pe.  But we shall also survey other points of interest.  Verse 14, is a tribute to those who preach what those with itching ears wish to hear, rather than the Truth!
14 Thy prophets have seen visions for thee of vanity and delusion; and they have not uncovered thine iniquity, to bring back thy captivity; but have prophesied for thee burdens of vanity and seduction.

15 All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: ‘Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?’

Daughter Of Jerusalem”, is a phrase that Americans ought to dread.  The Pilgrims explicitly set forth to build a New Jerusalem.  They read deeply of the “Old” Testament.  Thus OT names are profuse in New England.  So much so that in the Revolutionary War and the War Of 1812 British soldiers and sailors referred to Americans as “Jonathans”.  Both the Pilgrims and the latter Boston Migrations saw themselves as like Israel, crossing the sea, conquering the Wilderness and resettling Canaan.  They did not know how much more than “as like” Israelites they were.  Before the Mayflower Pilgrims set foot on Cape Cod or Plymouth, the native populations were decimated by plagues that burnt unquenchably down from Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia, where Europeans came ashore to dry their catch for the trip back to the fish markets of The Old World.  Fishing and whaling ships also traded with the Indians and introduced diseases for which they had zero immunity.  A mild cold, would become a deadly pneumonia destroying entire tribes.  Deuteronomy 5:10 -12

10And it shall be, when HaShem thy G-d shall bring thee into the land which He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee–great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

11 and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and cisterns hewn out, which thou the didst not hew, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou didst not plant, and thou shalt eat and be satisfied–

12 then beware lest thou forget HaShem, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Because of the plagues that had preceded them, the Pilgrims set foot into a Post-Apocalyptic world of shattered Indian nations.  They unbeknownst literally settled in villages left abandoned.  They ate corn from cisterns they did not hue out.  And they ate crops like corn, squash and beans, which they did not plant.
They had the unbelievable good fortune of meeting Squanto; an Indian kidnapped by Spanish sailors and who wound up living on the grounds of a wealthy investor of the Pilgrims and learning English.  He hitched a ride with fishermen to Maine, and walked all the way home.  He was stunned by the devastation, the total loss of his entire tribe, and family.  His presence allowed the Pilgrims to negotiate with Massasoit the Sachem of the area.

More of the great similarity betweenof the Pilgrims and ancient Israel is seen in Deuteronomy 7:17-21

17 If thou shalt say in thy heart: ‘These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?’

18 thou shalt not be afraid of them; thou shalt well remember what HaShem thy G-d did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt:

19 the great trials which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby HaShem thy G-d brought thee out; so shall HaShem thy G-d do unto all the peoples of whom thou art afraid.

20 Moreover HaShem thy G-d will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and they that hide themselves, perish from before thee.

21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them; for HaShem thy G-d is in the midst of thee, a G-d great and awful.

The “Hornet, or Swarm” is also translated as Plagues and Pestilences.  Ha-Tzir-ah is the word used.  Devarim is also used to describe bees, and pestilences, and words!

The Pilgrims benefited from Ha Tziriah emptying the land and disorganizing the survivors.  If not for this event there is no way the Pilgrims would have survived the winter. But that is not all there is.  Jacob promised the best of lands in the world to Joseph. Genesis 49: 22-26

22 Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine by a fountain; its branches run over the wall.

23 The archers have dealt bitterly with him, and shot at him, and hated him;

24 But his bow abode firm, and the arms of his hands were made supple, by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, from thence, from the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel,

25 Even by the G-d of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that coucheth beneath, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

26 The blessings of thy father are mighty beyond the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills; they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of the prince among his brethren.
Therefore Joseph is promised a land far greater than that of the Patriarchs.  Joseph is to be a great worldly power.

“Daughter Of Jerusalem” ought to catch our breath away!

Now, here in verses 16 and 17, we have the first reversal of the letters starting the verses, from Ayin to Pe, as the normal progression goes to Pe, to Ayin, here.  Why would Jeremiah do this?  I believe he is sending us a message.  Those who would quickly read through Lamentations would miss this subtlety.  How few people read Lamentations at all, ever?  How few of these readers read it in conjunction with Tisha B’Av?  How few of those read it with an eye for Hebrew acrostics?  Not that many at all!  Not me!  I owe the recognition to the peculiar change in alphabetical order in chapters 2,3 and 4 to the Art Scroll edition’s commentary.  But though it is pointed out, no explanation is attempted.  I shall attempt to give my explanation.  In brief, The World reads it just the way it is numbered.  It paints the picture that The World wishes to believe; and which God allows them to believe for now. However, when read in the correct alphabetical order, by reversing the two verses, (or groups of verses), we see what Adenoi Tsavaot wishes us to see!

16 All thine enemies have opened their mouth wide against thee; they hiss and gnash the teeth; they say: ‘We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.’

17 HaShem hath done that which He devised; He hath performed His word that He commanded in the days of old; He hath thrown down unsparingly; and He hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries.
Reading in the way of the world, we see what the enemies did, joyfully, enthusiastically, and proudly! ‘We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.’  Is this not exactly how The World, sees this moment?  Hello, Daughter Of Jerusalem?  Do you hear this?  No?  Because our dumbed-down Biblically illiterate society believes that these events are due to the “inevitable forces of the internal contradictions of Capitalism”, if they have the capacity to express the vague emotions that pass for thought!  Or they believe we are facing strong “head winds” and may even be sliding into a double dip recession.
Has George Soros succeeded?  Has Obama successfully planted the charges for a controlled demolition of the Global Economy, dragged down by the death spiral of the USA?  Maybe.  Maybe they even secretly gloat about it.  Or maybe we Conspiracy Theorists are just nut jobs?  Or maybe, the answer is just none of the above.  Now, if you had read the second verse of this pair first, another scenario would have perhaps clicked into view?

Instead of the nations gloating on what “they had done”, all they had done was only what YHVH had ordained long ago!  In fact the word “hiss” caught my eye, and reminded me of the serpent in Eden, whose punishment was to slither on his belly, and his fate was to hiss at the heel of the woman’s (Eve’s) seed.  Notably as well, heel is the Torah’s explanation of Jacob’s name. (Gen. 25:26) The Serpent hissing at Jacob is as the putting to death of Yeshua, the descendent of Israel (Jacob) The crushing of the serpent’s head is as the overcoming of Death and HaSatan by Yeshua HaMoshiach.
When read in the correct alphabetic order the verses give a totally different sense.  Notably, Pe, means mouth; and Ayin, eye.  Normally Ayin precedes Pe, but here it is reversed   Notice the MOUTH imagery here.  “All your enemies jeered at you; they hiss and gnash their teeth.  We have devoured her!”  Yes, the nations glory, and exult in their “victory” over the “Great Satan” and the “Little Satan”.  But we know the hand of the LORD did it.  Like when He whistled for Assyria, and they enthusiastically punished Israel twice for all her sins, YHVH vindicated her.  And will again.  (Assyria has carried on into this very age, but that is not for now.)  Like the ax handle thinking it could cut down the forest from which it was cut, the nations will feast on their “victory”, for but a brief time.

Verse 22 in Chapter two is worth a glance too!  ‘Thou hast called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side, and there was none in the day of YHVH’s anger that escaped or remained; those that I have dandled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.’  “Terror”, needs not be explained at all!  Though not in this case the very word for “violence” or “iniquity” is actually Hamas, in Hebrew!  One cannot make this stuff up!  Since Arabic is not that different from Hebrew, I wonder what Hamas means to its members?
From the first sentence this chapter evokes the mood of Jonah, Job, or The Passion, and Isaiah’s Man Of Constant Sorrows.

1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.

2 He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness and not in light.

3 Surely against me He turneth His hand again and again all the day.

5 My flesh and my skin hath He worn out; He hath broken my bones.

Verse 1: Ani ha-gever raah ani.  Ani, as a homonym, has two meanings, in this verse. Ani: alef nun yud, means“I”; ayin nun yud; “affliction”.  “I am the man who has seen affliction”.  Almost like Jeremiah is saying I am affliction.

Verses 5-8 sound almost as if lifted from Jonah.

5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot go forth; He hath made my chain heavy.

Another translation of 5:  “He besieged me and encircled me with bitterness and travail”.  The Hebrew word translated as “bitterness” is Rosh.  This word’s most common definition by far, is “head”, not “bitterness!  So: He besieged and circled my head with woe, pain! Like Jonah, 2:5  The engulfing waters threatened me,
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.
Which itself points to Matthew 27:29 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

This is but one of the many instances where one may point to Yeshua as the One Man Israel; for the Jews themselves were crucified by Man and the Prince Of This World.  Yeshua’s suffering in part was the fore knowledge of what The World would do to his brother and sisters in His name.  The Jews bore the suffering that kept the gates to The Kingdom from closing; so long as one of the Lost Sheep of Israel are missing, the door remains open for all who would enter.  The entire drama was enacted to collect the greatest harvest possible.  If Adam and Eve never ate from that fruit, paradise would have been maintained, but the population would be 2.  If the Northern Kingdom repented, and reunified with Judea, perhaps together Babylon would have been defeated, and Yeshua accepted and the end of the age would have come, and gone, with none of the nations given the possibility of entrance.  Through the rejection of Yeshua, due to a spiritual blindness placed upon the Jewish people in this regard has in effect kept the gates open.  It is like two magnets, seeking to connect with tremendous force; held apart by the suffering Jews.  But the Age of the Gentiles has passed.  Perhaps it ended when General Allenby fought the British Imperial Army into Jerusalem, ending 2000 years of rule by gentiles.  Joseph, as he did in Egypt, led the way into the place that God had planned for the Israelites.  Joshua ben Nun, was an Ephraimite, and he, a descendent of Joseph lead Israel into The Land.

Chapter 3, also is arranged differently than the other chapters.  Instead of each verse starting with a letter of the alphabet, and progressing, this chapter has triplets.  The first three verses begin with Alef.  The next three begin with Bet; and so on, with the caveat that Pe again precedes Ayin.

Since this chapter is in triplets, we shall look at the Ayin and Pe triplets.   In the order written:

פ 46 “All our enemies have opened their mouths
wide against us.

פ 47 We have suffered terror and pitfalls,
ruin and destruction. ”

פ 48 Streams of tears flow from my eyes
because my people are destroyed.

ע 49 My eyes will flow unceasingly,
without relief,

ע 50 until the Lord looks down
from heaven and sees.

ע 51 What I see brings grief to my soul
because of all the women of my city.

Now placing the verses in corrected alef-tav order would be to read them perhaps from 51 backward to 46.  Interesting also in that Ayin means “eye” and Pe means “mouth”.

ע 51 My eye brings grief to my soul
because of all the daughters of my city,

ע 50 until the Lord looks down
from heaven and sees.

ע 49 My eyes will flow unceasingly,
without relief,
פ 48 Streams of tears flow from my eyes
because my people are destroyed.

פ 47 We have suffered terror and pitfalls,
ruin and destruction. ”

פ 46 All our enemies have opened their mouths
wide against us.

Reading in corrected alef-tav reveals Jeremiah once again telling us the order of disaster. He understands the woe and grief are from the lord. He reminds us that the suffering will continue until the lord looks down and sees, the destruction of the people.  The terror and pitfalls are secondary and incidental to the primary cause of the lord’s judgment.  And the mouths of the enemy are only a tertiary issue.  If and when the term of punishment ends, the lord will restore the People.  If it were G~d’s will the mouths of the foe would have no power.
Though not as telling as the corrected order of Chapter 2, still the corrected order of the triplets in Chapter 3 do remind us that despite the appearances of the disaster, the lord’s hand is present in the travails of the nation.

In the fourth Chapter, once again the verses are in Alef-Tav order with the exception of Ayin and Pe being reversed.  Like the other Chapters, there are twenty-two verses and twenty-two letters. Before we see what we may glean from applying a corrected Alef-Tav to verses 16 and 17, we might notice the unusual three mentions of “Gold” in 4:1 and 2.

1 How the gold has lost its luster! How the fine gold has changed! How the stones of the sanctuary lie scattered at every street corner!

2 The precious sons of Tziyon,
as precious as fine gold —to think they are now worth no more than clay jars made by a potter!

The word for “gold” is different in each of the three cases.
The first occasion is ב ָָהָ ז (Strong’s H2091).  This word for gold is more weighted towards the appearance, or the color, gold.   So despite the dimness, we are told that the underlying quality is unchanged.
The second occasion the Hebrew word used is Strong’s H 3100.

ם תֶ   ֶּכ הַ
This Gold is used often poetically.  It also refers to that which is hidden away in treasuries, or that which is precious.  The verse seems to suggesting that not only has Israel acted profanely they have become profane in their very being.
The third time “gold” is used in the first two verses of chapter 4 is           ז    פָּ   בַּ Strong’s H6337.  This word for gold refers to solid gold, purified.  (Since the root is ז  פּ, I wonder if perhaps the Bet preceding it might be a scribal error.  Chet with a dagesh looks much like Bet. [ בּ    כ] If so, the Chet would be “like”, so it would be “like pure gold”.)

No matter, this third usage seems to speak for the very deepest nature or destiny.  From the initial, “gold color dimmed” with presumed unchanged inner nature, to the “finest gold is changed” is as if to say the rot reached from the surface into the depths of the people.  However, in the fullness of time the children of Zion are comparable to refined purified Gold, despite being treated cheap ceramics.
Let us now turn to 4: 16 and 17.  Here again are two verses with Ayin following Pe; the reverse of normal order.

פ 16 Adonai himself scattered them; he will no longer look after them; they had no respect for cohanimand showed no kindness to the leaders.

ע 17 As for us, our eyes are worn out from looking in vain for help; we kept on watching and watching for a nation that couldn’t save us.
When we restore the normal order and read this in alef-tav order a very different and startling message is given!
ע 17As for us, our eyes are worn out from looking in vain for help; we kept on watching and watching for a nation that couldn’t save us.

פ 16 Adonai himself scattered them; he will no longer look after them; they had no respect for cohanimand showed no kindness to the leaders.
This is quite a remarkable revelation.  It completely changes the nature of “them”.  Reading it as written, it seems as if “them” refers to the Judeans of the Southern Kingdom, the rump of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah. However, reading it in alef-tav it appears as if the scattered ones are the nation for whom the people of Jerusalem had been wearing out their eyes searching for.
I have elsewhere given my beliefs about the English-speaking peoples being the worldly power prophesied to emerge from Joseph, consisting of two brothers who have gored the nations to the ends of the earth.  If I am correct, this is a warning for the USA and the entire Anglosphere for right now, today!  If it so happens that Jerusalem searches in vain for the aid promised by the English-speaking peoples in its distress; the aid will indeed come.  However it will come from the Messiah.  However by then our nations shall be scattered, the lord who blessed our peoples with the blessings of the soil, mountains, rivers, and seas, with wealth, health, peace, will no longer look out for us.   (Americans have not seen war at home since the Civil War.  We are very complacent.) Otto von Bismarck is alleged to have muttered, ”God has a special providence for fools, drunks and the United States of America”?  Whether or not we see that providence in a drunk, and foolish United States remains to be seen.

The final chapter, chapter 5, has 22 verses. Though there are 22 Hebrew letters, I expected there to be some kind of order. There is none.   Below is the list of the twenty-two verses and the first letter of each.
Nothing jumps out.  But the 22 verses in the final chapter in a book of five chapters of alef-tav acrostics is screaming “Look closer!”

I arranged the verses in alef-tav order and put stars where that letter is missing from the list.  Where there are more than one verses with the same initial letter I merely placed them in order as they appeared.   This is Chapter Five in corrected Alef-Tav order.

א 7. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.

19. Thou, O HaShem, art enthroned forever, Thy throne is from generation to generation.

ּבּ 9. We get our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

13. The young men have borne the mill, and the children have stumbled under the wood.

ה 21. Turn Thou us unto Thee, O HaShem, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

ז 1. Remember, O HaShem, what is come upon us; behold, and see our reproach.

14. The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music.

י 3. We are become orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.

כּ 22 Thou canst not have utterly rejected us, and be exceeding wroth against us!

ל 20. Wherefore dost Thou forget us forever, and forsake us so long time?
מ 4. We have drunk our water for money; our wood cometh to us for price.

6. We have given the hand to Egypt, and to Assyria, to have bread enough;

נ 2. Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, our houses unto aliens.

11. They have ravished the women in Zion, the maidens in the cities of Judah.

16. The crown is fallen from our head; woe unto us! For we have sinned.

ע 5,8,10,17,18

5. To our very necks we are pursued; we labour, and have no rest.

8. Servants rule over us; there is none to deliver us out of their hand.

10. Our skin is hot like an oven because of the burning heat of famine.

17. For this our heart is faint, for these things our eyes are dim;

18. For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

ש 12. Princes are hanged up by their hand; the faces of elders are not honored.

15. The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

Perhaps one can rub one’s eyes long enough and make some kind of pattern.  But it really appears that the entire fifth chapter is a series of single sentence verses that do not move or build in any direction.  So if there is no message other than that contained in the single sentence verses, maybe the medium is the message?  I made a chart sort of the reverse of the one above.

What else is in the medium if not the message?  I discovered that of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alef-tav 11 letters are found as the first letter of the twenty-two verses.

Of the 22 letters, 11 letters used, 11 unused.  It is as if we have one half of the picture, and the other half is occluded.   It is like the bright side of the moon seen from earth, and the other unseen side.   It is also suggestive of the entire thrust of the Ayin Pe reversals.  Lamentations is written in the way the world would read it.  Within it is encoded the view from YHVK’s perspective.

The SEED’s Genealogy

There is a blind spot in Genesis and Tanakh to the matrilineal genealogy.  But it is traceable with very interesting results.  By following this trail we come upon explanations of otherwise inexplicable stories.

It is through the Woman, Eve that the SEED that will crush the serpent’s head is passed. Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The SEED is (to me anyway) a Messianic promise.  In addition, I believe that since the Torah is said to be parsimonious in its word usage, the word “seed” is seeded all over the creation story.  Every fruit-bearing tree, bears seed-bearing fruit.  EVERY.  Therefore the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil too has a seed.  This is the same seed as in the woman!  The CURE for the eating of the fruit is contained in the fruit.  This SEED was passed through a specific genealogy of women.  An X-chromosome gene-like transmission it will occur in half of her daughters, and half of her sons. And of that half, it will be in half of their daughters etc.  Quickly this gene, this SEED will become rarified in the population and will become a very precious and guarded commodity.

Clearly Mrs. Terah was SEED+.  Sarah had it, and so too did either Haran and/or Nahor.  Bethuel either inherited it from Milcah from Haran from Mrs. Terah, or from his father Nahor, who inherited it from Mrs. Terah.  Lot?  Since Ruth is an important ingredient, apparently, the Moabitress, is a descendent from Lot and his daughter.  Both inherited SEED+ from Haran.  Since half of Lot’s daughters would have SEED+ perhaps the one who gave rise to the Ammonites was negative.

This is why it was urgent for Abraham to send his Agent to fetch a bride for Isaac from his family.  Rivka inherited the SEED from Bethuel.  As did Laban, and as did Leah.  I wonder if Rachel perhaps did NOT inherit it.  This is why the trick was required to get Leah married to Jacob?  And perhaps this is why Rachel died and was buried at the roadside rather than in Machpelah. And more so, this is why Jonathan ben Rachel loved David so, that he placed his own cloak, and armor on him and surrendered his kingdom in favor of David ben Leah.

And this is why MBJ is to MBD as Elimelech is to Boaz.

Recalling that only 50% of the sons of a SEED+ mother will be carriers, perhaps Judah was negative.  Thus, the very strange story insert of his marriage to the daughter of Shua (Bet-Shua???).  He arranged marriage for his elder son Er with Tamar.  But Er was wicked in the sight of the LORD.  He dies childless.  Onan spills his seed; and is killed.  The Tamar is sent away and though Shela comes of age, Judah does not send for her, (maybe he thinks she is bad luck?).  Anyway, this complex story inserted in the story of Joseph seems to have no purpose, unless it is to demonstrate the necessity of Tamar’s input.  Thus Tamar, mysterious in her origins, must be SEED+.  And so, Peretz is SEED+.  Eventually Ruth’s carrying Lot’s SEED+, marries into Peretz lineage and we have ++!  From the double positive SEED++ comes David and MBD.

Jeremiah 16:19 paints the picture of the Messianic Age.  The Nations suddenly are made aware of the reality and power of Elohim of B’nai Yisrael.

19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.  20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

In context of Jeremiah 16; When will this occur, that the nations shall come to “unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit”?

This seems to occur after: 14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

Therefore a return of B’nai Yisrael from the land of the North precedes and is perhaps the cause of the amazed nations suddenly seeing the power and truth of Elohim. But does the return of the Jewish People to the Land fulfill this prophecy?  It may have been instrumental in the birth of the modern Messianic Jewish movement.  The capture of the Old City of Jerusalem to many seemed more than a just another current event.  Many Jews sought greater meaning in the miraculous victory.  To this day, the Return to The land of the Jewish People has not percolated down into the Liturgy, or the heart of Judaism.  But Messianic Judaism might be seen as at least one of the causes in the growing Torah Observance among Yeshua believing non-Jews.  Messianic Jewish Rabbis seem to win more converts from the Church world than the Jewish.  But though important, the Return of the Jewish people to power in Jerusalem has not ushered in the Messianic Age. There has not been a massive influx of gentiles into Torah Observance, but indeed the first steams of a future torrent are visible if looked for.  So if the Return of the Jewish People has not fulfilled Jer. 16: 19, what will?

Consider: “Jer. 16: 13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favor.” Has there ever been an historical period in which the Jewish people served “other gods, day and night”? No! Throughout the Babylonian and Roman Diasporas there was never a time in which Jews committed apostasy as a people. Those few individuals that went along to get along excised themselves from the Jewish People. The Jewish People have NEVER served other gods in Diaspora!

So, there is a group that will be returned to the Land before the period when the Nations will come unto thee from the ends of the earth. This group consists of B’nai Yisrael; this portion of Am Yisrael is hidden away, thus ” Jer. 16: 16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.”!!!

Just before the Great Day of the Lord when the doors to the wedding chapel will be thrown open, a return of a long missing portion of B’nai Yisrael, that had been scattered and LOST/Hidden amongst all the world will each one be found and returned. Amos 9:9 For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.

THE AMAZING SIGN IS THE RECOGNITION THAT “JOSEPH STILL LIVES!” as Jacob was told and exclaimed once before, in another seeming miraculous return from presumed death. Only this time makes the first time look like the minor key introductory first movement; and this return is in the major, recapitulation of the theme.

How stunned will the world be? How stunned are those people who even NOW are discovering self-knowledge that they are not merely engrafted wild branches, but have been re-grafted natural branches all this time. It is these people who are the vanguard of the emergence of Ephraim of Joseph as in Ezekiel 37:19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.  20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.  21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

WE SEE THIS OCCURRING EVERYWHERE WE LOOK.  Certain Churchians are discovering the Jewish Yeshua.  The lies upon which “The Church” was founded, the replacement of natural Israel with some Platonic “Spiritual Israel”, are seen as direct steps leading to the Holocaust.  Many are now remembering to remember the one commandment we are told to remember: The Sabbath. (Where were the Lost Tribes hidden? The Legends say: beyond the River Sambatyon. The river is mentioned in the Targum Pseudo-Jonathan (Ex. 34:10): “I will take them from there and place them on the other side of the Sambatyon River.” See  Sambatyon

Many ridiculous theories regarding this mythical river abound. However, the only thing worth noting is that it was their loss of Sabbath that kept the Lost Tribes lost.  The Sabbath was, is and will always be one of the signs identifying God’s people from all others.  Even self-identification as B’nai Yisrael depend upon keeping the Seventh day Holy.  Te Northern Tribes, already committing apostasy before their conquest by Assyria, quickly forgot Shabbot and with that became totally amnestic as to their identity.   It is as if an impassable river separates those who keep Shabbot from those who do not.  As Torah Observant X-ians are leaving the Sunday Church and its Replacement Theology with its “nailing of the law on the cross”, many are discovering that they were Lost Israelites, but now are taking their rightful place. JOSEPH STILL LIVES, they exclaim!
